I was born and raised in Michigan, a left-handed kid to a pair of amazing right-handed parents. I was a shy child and found my solace in books. Lots and lots of books.

My passion for reading led to interests in folklore, history, world cultures and the arts. Much to my delight, in 1996 all congealed in the photographic medium.

I owe my curious nature to my Dad who always encouraged a sense of discovery. Upon the arrival of the National Geographic Magazine, we'd plan our expeditions across the huge fold out maps. Our family vacations were spent fishing, camping and exploring the many hysterical/historical sites throughout the Great Lakes State. Who knew that there are six "largest" Paul Bunyon & Babe the Blue Ox statues in Michigan?

My domestically gifted and fabulously creative Mom helped me to appreciate art and to explore the artists who created it. Her wonderful sense of style and fearless talent for pairing colors, textures and patterns was mesmerizing. My sister and I were always sporting the latest in handmade fashions and, I'm afraid, haircuts. Much to my Mom's chagrin, I inherited none of her domestic skills. I am a 99.9% undomesticated goddess. It's a bit of a relief, actually.

After a gig as a punk rocker working in a record store, I earned a BA in Museum Studies/Art History from Western Michigan University. During college I landed an incredible job, at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum, where I researched and catalogued artifacts dating from pre-history to present. My love of stories, history, objects, people and art was officially cemented.

I now live in Los Angeles next to an even greater "lake" where I can observe the coolest, strangest and funniest of people, places and things on a daily basis.
